July 25, 2013, Simcoe, Ont. — Several hundred growers from across Ontario and Quebec attended this week's open house at the Sawaya Garden Trials. (There were a couple of U.S. licence plates in the parking lot, too.)

Representatives of a number of breeders were on hand to talk with growers.

About 2,200 varieties were in the trials. The focus was on containers. The annual hanging basket competition also attracted considerable attention; visitors could vote on their favourites and the results will be announced in the magazine later this year.

An overview of this year's trials will be published this fall as a Growing In The Green feature.

Here’s a pictorial overview of the event. Click here for more information.
The trials remained consistently busy throughout the day.

A few of the plants infected with downy mildew were left on display.

The hanging basket competition has become a favourite with visitors. Here are a few of the designs that caught my eye.
