Check out the garden trials at Landscape Ontario

August 12, 2016  By Dave Harrison

Aug. 12, 2016, Milton, Ont. – The extensive gardens at Landscape Ontario feature the latest annual and perennial cultivars – a delight when viewed from up close, as well as from the adjacent Hwy. 401. New this season are 164 rose cultivars and a special hydrangea trial.

An open house will be held Aug. 18, beginning at 9 a.m. Included will be an exclusive personal tour of the trial gardens hosted by Rodger Tschanz of the University of Guelph.

This open house is a joint project between Landscape Ontario, the University of Guelph and the Ontario Parks Association. Their goal is to provide a first look at new-and-improved cultivars in a real-life setting. See how the new plants perform in wind and poor soils, and while under disease pressure – this is a unique opportunity to see what performs well, despite everything!

Open house guests will be treated to a program including a presentation on rain gardens, the story of the garden’s expansion and highlights of the 2016 trial.

Where: Landscape Ontario Horticultural Trades Association, 7856 Fifth Line S., Milton, Ont., L9T 2X8.

When: Thursday, Aug. 18, beginning at 9 a.m.

Kindly RSVP to Kathleen Pugliese, kpugliese@landscapeontario.com.

AND THEN DRIVE TO U OF GUELPH

Afternoon tours will also be offered at the University of Guelph Trial Garden site. See an All America Selections judging trial, plus a ground bed and container trial of over 400 annuals and perennials. Directions will be provided at the Landscape Ontario trials open house.

U of Guelph is also hosting a public open house on Friday, Aug. 19, from noon to 8, and Saturday, Aug. 20, from 9 to 3.
