May 30, 2014 — Sal Rincione is joining BrightFarms, Inc. as vice-president of Greenhouse Development. He will be leading the effort to scale BrightFarms’ greenhouse operations and execute strategies to further the company’s environmental mission.

Rincione has 18 years of experience in franchising, operations, construction management and real estate development. “I am very excited to join the BrightFarms team and disrupt the food supply chain by making locally grown food available on a national scale.”

Since 2011, BrightFarms has raised $19.5 million in capital, has secured more than $100 million in contracted backlog with supermarkets, and has proven that local produce can be done economically on a commercial basis.

“With Sal’s leadership, BrightFarms will build the infrastructure needed to meet the rising demand for local produce in U.S. supermarkets,” says BrightFarms CEO Paul Lightfoot. “His track record of building facilities on time, and under budget, will enable us to scale up our greenhouses quickly and effectively.”

BrightFarms grows local produce, nationwide. By financing, building, and operating local greenhouse farms, BrightFarms eliminates time, distance, and costs from the food supply chain.

Borrowing from the highly successful renewable energy industry, BrightFarms signs long-term purchase agreements with supermarkets that feature fixed prices and minimum volume commitments.
