Looking for updates on the latest developments and trends in biological products? The Biological Products Industry Alliance (BPIA) will be holding their fall meeting and Sustainability Symposium in Rochester, New York from October 9 to 10.

“Our symposium will update attendees on the latest developments and trends in biological technology, regulatory issues, and related matters from both the perspective of manufacturers and users of biological products,” says BPIA Executive Director Keith Jones.

Symposium topics will include: the future of biological products in sustainable agriculture, the status of biostimulants around the world, the role of biological products in the food value chain, and how and why growers are using biological products.

Speakers will include Kristen Sukalac, consulting partner at management consultancy Prospero & Partners which serves as the secretariat of the European Biostimulants Industry Council, as well as Dr. Clint Nesbitt, director of regulatory affairs in the Food and Agriculture Section of the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO), one of the world's largest trade association representing more than 950 biotechnology companies, academic institutions, and state biotechnology centers.

Jones also recommends a panel entitled ‘The Status of Biostimulants in Sustainability’, which he says “will look at what is happening with biostimulants all over the world including Canada specifically and will be moderated by David Hiltz of our Canadian member company, Acadian Plant Health.”

With over 126 member organizations, the Washington-based BPIA works to advance the use of biological technologies based on biological or naturally derived chemistry. Their members' products and services target a number of different sectors, ranging from horticulture and ornamentals, to forestry and home gardens.

“We have about a half dozen members based in Canada and many more that do substantial business in Canada,” says Jones. “We recently convened a Canadian Task Force to explore the possibility of developing a Canadian Committee to better serve our Canadian members and focus on their issues such as working with the PMRA.”

The symposium will be followed by Biocontrols USA East 2018 Conference & Expo from October 11 to 12, dedicated to education around biopesticide and biostimulant use by growers.
