2019 GISC wraps up in Calgary

November 19, 2019  By Greta Chiu

The 2019 Green Industry Show and Conference wrapped up last Friday at the BMO Centre in Calgary, Alberta. The event was co-developed by Landscape Alberta and the Alberta Greenhouse Growers’ Association,

Running from November 14 to 15, the show landed during the Chinook winds, leading to pleasantly mild winter conditions for over 2000 conference attendees, up seven per cent compared to the previous year.

With 24 conference sessions and two keynote speakers, visitors were treated to some quality educational programming in the morning before being released to the tradeshow in the afternoon.

Over 120 exhibitors were present on the tradeshow floor for the greenhouse, garden centre, nursery, landscape, turf and tree industries. Many were first-time exhibitors, says Joel Beatson, CEO of Landscape Alberta. Among Beatson’s highlights were the sold-out AGGA garden party, a “jam-packed” tailgate party sponsored by Manderley Turf with beer tasting from Dandy Brewing in Calgary, keynote speakers ATB Chief Economist Todd Hirsch and best-selling author Jessi Bloom, as well as food trucks added to the tradeshow floor.

GISC returns to Edmonton next year from November 19-20, 2020.
