New Varieties

1. Agapanthus ‘Back in Black’
With its jet black stems and dark purple flowers, this one will rock the Agapanthus world! Its creator, Piet Zonneveld, is also a new addition to the Darwin PlantSpotters stable. (Darwin PlantSpotters)

2. Arisaema ‘Triphyllum’ – Jack in the Pulpit
Green-and-maroon-striped hooded blooms, these plants can be found near water ponds or water features. The flowers appear from spring through summer and are replaced by red seed clusters in the fall. Caution: Poisonous. Zones 3-9.  Blooms March-June, 60 cm.

3. Astilbe Japonica ‘Elizabeth Van Veen’ – False Goat’s Beard
Wonderful for adding colour to the summer shade garden, this variety has thick plumes of dark, raspberry-red flowers with a maroon tint. The foliage is a rich bronzy-green. A must have garden classic. Zones 3-9. Blooms June-Oct., 60 cm.

4. Calla ‘Antique’
A robust, thick-stemmed and large-flowered variety has creamy flowers awash with shades of peach and lavender. The layers of colour are so gentle and softened, giving an absolutely antique appearance. Give your garden that elegant touch with a few antiques! Lift and store bulbs for winter. 5. Calla ‘Picasso’
A brilliant departure in Calla colour, this lovely introduction has creamy-white blooms with a deep-purple throat. The glossy, arrow-shaped leaves have a delicate white blotching. Add a work of art to your garden! Lift and store bulbs for winter. Blooms July-Sept., 40 cm.

6. Canna Futurity Red
The rich-burgundy foliage and the compact size of this variety combined with the intense crimson red make this an excellent choice as a container centrepiece. Flowers are self-cleaning, eliminating the need to prune or deadhead. The incredible foliage alone is enough to encourage a mass planting in your summer garden. Lift and store bulbs for

7. Calla ‘Neon Amour’

8. Calla ‘Rodin’
The delicate flesh-tone colours of soft-peach blooms with pink blush could bring this Rodin sculpture to life. The shiny, pointed foliage with blotching can also add brightness to your water garden.
