In a deal that expands its greenhouse footprint, Kingsville, Ont.-based fruit and vegetable grower Mucci Farms has acquired grower partner Hacienda North Farms, a 160-acre greenhouse facility located in Coatsworth, Ont.

The financial terms of the deal have not been announced.

Hacienda North Farms specializes in growing bell peppers for the Canadian and U.S. markets. In addition to its greenhouse facility, the acquisition also includes a land bank spanning 120 acres that can be used for future expansion and innovation.

“Working directly with Hacienda Farms for several years has given us insight into the facilities and the quality product that’s grown there,” Mucci Farms CEO Bert Mucci said in a May 22 news release. “Bringing them into our fold presents an exciting opportunity to further enhance our ability to meet the needs of our retail partners.”

Mucci Farms is part of the newly launched Cox Farms fresh produce business, which consists of a multinational network of indoor farms and consumer brands, and the Hacienda North Farms deal is described in the release as “a pivotal moment” for the enterprise. “This strategic investment underscores our dedication to leading the industry to ensure we meet the evolving needs of consumers,” said Cox Farms president Steven Bradely. “Together, we are committed to scaling operations and enhancing access to sustainably grown produce.”
