Mar. 1, 2012 - Grow Your Own for Kids shows budding gardeners how to grow the tastiest and best-ever fruit and vegetables, as well as some of their favourite flowers.

Written by Chris Collins and Lia Leendertz, Grow Your Own for Kids (Mitchell Beasley; 2012) is packed with activities that kids and adults can enjoy together. The book covers everything little green-thumbs need to know to get the gardening bug, including how to sow and grow easy-peasy vegetables and fruit that they’ll love to eat. “Yum!” sidebars offer suggestions for enjoying the harvest, from the best corn on the cob to fruit popsicles and herb garden pizza.

Thirty easy-to-follow projects with simple step-by-step instructions guide and inspire, presenting fun challenges such as growing the tallest sunflower and the largest pumpkin. The book also explains how parents and adults can provide a garden for kids in even the smallest of spaces, suggesting great plants for tiny spaces using tubs, pots, and containers. Tips on insects, birds, bees, and worms, how to create not-so-scary scarecrows and leach motels teach kids about creating a green garden. A shopping list, general advice, and words of wisdom ensure that all goes right for budding new gardeners.

Grow Your Own for Kids is aimed at children aged five to 11.
