May 21, 2014, Sumner, Wash. – Sixteen of North America’s largest growers are being honoured for their green efforts and environmentally conscious practices.

The Million Bottle Club, organized by McConkey’s rEarth™ plastic water bottle recycling program, recognizes growers who have recycled more than one million plastic water bottles into plant containers.

“Simply by growing in rEarth, the Million Bottle Club honourees have recycled 117 million bottles combined, keeping those bottles out of our landfills, oceans and streets,” said Dave Edenfield, business development manager for McConkey.

“Choosing a 100 per cent recycled, curbside-recyclable grow container made from water bottles is a positive impact on the environment that’s easy to make.”

A huge environmental concern, plastic bottles go into landfills and litter at the astonishing rate of 60 million every day. Since only one in four are recycled, these growers make a huge impact by using products like rEarth, which help the environment by diverting bottles away from landfills and re-forming them into curbside recyclable grower containers.

This year’s Million Bottle Award recipients include:

20 Million Bottles or More:
 Armstrong Growers,
 Kawahara Nursery.

10 Million Bottles or More:
 Colorama Wholesale Nursery,
 Do-Right’s Plant Growers,
 YC Nurseries.

5 Million Bottles or More:
 Cal Color Growers,
 Iwasaki Bros., Inc.,
 Sidhu & Sons.

1 Million Bottles or More:
 Smith Gardens,
 Certified Plant Growers,
 Hong’s Nursery,
 Van Wingerden Greenhouses,
 Pacific Growers,
 De Goede Brothers,
 Beaver Nursery,
 Clearwater Color.

Announced each summer, The Million Bottle Award is based on the cumulative number of bottles recycled since the grower began using rEarth.

'MULTI-YEAR AWARDEES'

“Some of these growers have increased their environmental impact exponentially as multi-year awardees, and still more were very close to their first million bottle,” said Edenfield. “We look forward to welcoming a growing number into the Million Bottle Club next year.”

The rEarth line is manufactured by McConkey Company, a leading producer and distributor of horticultural goods, with locations in Sumner, WA, and Garden Grove, CA.
