Looking to export more flowers

March 14, 2011, Ottawa – The federal government is planting seeds that will allow Canada’s floriculture greenhouse industry to grow and flourish. Le français suit.

Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development Diane Finley announced an investment of $126,000 to Flowers Canada Growers, on behalf of Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz.
 
“With Flowers Canada Growers, floral greenhouses across Canada have a forum through which to address issues of importance to their industry,” said Finley. “Our government’s support for this organization will allow the industry to thrive in Canada and enhance its competitiveness in global markets.”
 
Flowers Canada Growers will use this investment to help develop market opportunities in the United States for Canadian producers. Activities planned include the updating of an export procedures manual, promoting the use of Canadian online auction systems to U.S. buyers, completing a market research study, and participating in U.S. and international trade shows.
 
“Agri-marketing has been a great support tool for our sector to develop a long-term strategy towards increasing exports,” said FCG executive director Dean Shoemaker. “International networking and promotion are helping our growers reinforce the quality and safety of Canadian-grown flowers and plants.”

This federal investment is provided through the $88 million AgriMarketing program, under Growing Forward, which helps industry associations implement long-term international strategies which include activities such as international market development, consumer awareness and branding, and industry-to-industry trade advocacy.

Le gouvernement du Canada favorise
l’essor de l’industrie canadienne de la floriculture

 
Ottawa, 14 mars 2011 – Le gouvernement du Canada vient en aide à l’industrie canadienne de la floriculture en serre pour lui permettre de grandir et de prospérer. Aujourd’hui, la ministre des Ressources humaines et du Développement des compétences Diane Finley a annoncé un investissement de 126 000 $ dans Flowers Canada Growers au nom du ministre de l’Agriculture Gerry Ritz.
 
« Grâce à Flowers Canada Growers, les serres florales partout au Canada possèdent une tribune où elles peuvent traiter des enjeux importants auxquels fait face leur industrie, a expliqué la ministre Finley. L’appui que notre gouvernement offre à cette organisation permettra à l’industrie de bien se développer au Canada et d’améliorer sa compétitivité sur les marchés internationaux. »
 
Flowers Canada Growers utilisera cet investissement pour aider les producteurs canadiens à accéder au marché américain. Parmi les activités prévues, mentionnons la mise à jour d’un guide de procédures d’exportation, la promotion de l’utilisation de la méthode canadienne de vente aux enchères en ligne auprès des acheteurs américains, la réalisation d’une étude de marché et la participation des producteurs canadiens à des foires commerciales aux États-Unis et à l’étranger.
 
« Le programme Agri-marketing a permis à notre secteur d’élaborer une stratégie à long terme pour augmenter ses exportations, a affirmé Dean Shoemaker, directeur général de Flowers Canada Growers. Le réseautage et la promotion à l’échelle internationale aident nos producteurs agricoles à améliorer la qualité et la salubrité des plantes et des fleurs cultivées au Canada. »
 
Cet investissement fédéral provient du programme Agri-marketing de Cultivons l’avenir, une initiative de 88 millions de dollars qui aide les associations du secteur à mettre en oeuvre des stratégies internationales à long terme comprenant des activités comme le développement des marchés internationaux, la sensibilisation des consommateurs et la défense des intérêts commerciaux de chaque industrie.
