LEDs ramp up grower’s revenue
March 11, 2013 By Brandi Cowen

A hydroponic lettuce producer in Norborne, Mo., realized a 38 per cent increase in revenue after installing LumiGrow Pro 325 LED light fixtures, according to a new case study.
Tony Heil, of Heil Fruit & Produce, was struggling to dependably grow his crop from November through mid-March due to low light levels. In order to extend the growing season, Heil installed the LumiGrow LEDs in his arch house. The lights, which deliver all the red and blue PAR of a 1000-Watt HPS light, consume 70 per cent less energy and emit less heat.
According to the case study, Heil is now able to supply a consistent lettuce crop year-round, leading to the increase in revenue.
Since installing the lights in January, Heil Fruit & Produce has also received Certified Organic status for its hydroponic lettuce operation.
