Here we GROW again! Since breaking ground for our first phase in 2013, Truly Green Farms has been known for growing an enthusiastic team whose focus is producing top quality tomatoes using a green energy approach. We are in the process of building the third of our four-phase 90-acre project in the municipality of Chatham-Kent (Southwestern Ontario, Canada). Our innovative relationship with Greenfield Global allows Truly Green to be a leader in the transfer of waste heat from the ethanol plant to the greenhouse. The abundant waste CO2 is also sequestered from Greenfield Global and used for growing. With our current expansion, we are seeking a qualified candidate to fill the Head Grower position.

The primary responsibilities are:
  • Develop and manage growing strategies
  • Develop and manage irrigation strategy
  • Responsible for plant growth and document crop development
  • Lead and direct 3 Assistant Growers who will individually oversee 22.5 acres each
  • Provide leadership and guidance to your TEAM
  • Network with consultants, technical experts and suppliers
  • Oversee the IPM program and crop scouts
  • Collaborate/partner with Operations Manager
    • Manage production budget
    • Assist with cultivar and variety selection
  • Utilize Priva greenhouse control system in order to optimize growth
  • Report and prioritize any maintenance requests and ensuring resolution in a timely manner.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:
  • The successful individual should hold a post-secondary degree or diploma in horticulture or agriculture, or an acceptable combination of formal training and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience growing tomatoes in a leadership role
  • Superior TEAM approach
  • Effective computer skills
  • Ability to maintain a culture of mutual respect within the team
  • Proven leadership in the area of individual performance management.
