Sun Gro, Florikan discuss joint venture

May 29, 2009 — Sun Gro Horticulture and Florikan ESA are hoping to form a
strategic joint venture to sell controlled release and water-soluble
fertilizers, as well as other specialty fertilizer products, to the
professional horticulture industry in North America.

The venture is expected to operate under the name Florikan Specialty Plant Nutrition. Further information about the pending venture will be released soon.

Florikan ESA Corporation was founded in 1981 in Sarasota, Fla., and has grown to become the largest distributor of Nutricote fertilizers in North America. It has recently developed Florikote, a controlled-release technology used in its Staged Nutrient Release (SNR) Blends with Nutricote. Florikan’s patented SNR Blending technology has earned the National Society of Professional Engineers Most Innovative New Product Award (U.S. Small Business Category).

Sun Gro was founded in 1929 in Vancouver, and has grown to become North America’s largest producer of sphagnum peat, and the largest distributor of peat moss and peat and bark-based growing media to professional plant growers in the U.S. and Canada. Sun Gro sells its professional products primarily to greenhouse, nursery and specialty crop growers, as well as to golf course developers and landscapers.

Sun Gro’s current fertilizer product offering includes Multicote®, Nutricote® in the Western United States, Technigro® and SunTrace®. Sun Gro also sells peat moss and peat-based growing mixes to retail customers.
