omafra_veg__and_flowersAugust 29, 2008 — The Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) recently announced the approval of an URMULE registration for PREVICUR N AQUEOUS SOLUTION Fungicide for control of root rot and damping-off caused by Pythium on greenhouse peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers in Canada. Previcur N was already labelled for control of Pythium on greenhouse cucumbers in Canada but with a limited use pattern. Previcur N has been the subject of repeated emergency use registrations for control of Pythium on greenhouse peppers in Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta.
These minor use projects were initiated in early 2000 by Victoria Brooks of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada in B.C. and Gillian Ferguson of OMAFRA in Ontario as a result of minor use priorities established by growers and extension personnel in Canada.  After many years of significant challenges and obstacles with these projects, the minor use label expansion for Previcur N Aqueous Solution Fungicide is a significant step towards developing a more robust and sustainable pest management toolkit for this disease in Canada.
The following is provided as a general outline only. Users should consult the complete label before using Previcur N Fungicide.
Previcur N Fungicide can be used for control of root rot and damping-off caused by Pythium at seeding or during propagation stage (before transplanting) after transplanting. Make the first application to growing medium at seeding or during propagation stage. A second application may be made seven to 10 days later if pressure warrants.
Applications may be made after transplanting on seven to 10 day intervals. A maximum of four applications can be made per crop cycle. Do not apply more than two seeding/seedling applications per crop cycle and do not apply more than two after transplanting applications per crop cycle.
For all applications, mix 10 mL Previcur N in 10 L of water and apply this solution at 100 to 200 mL per plant through drench directed to the rooting medium. The higher rate should be used for the second and third application.
Do not apply within two days of harvest for greenhouse cucumbers and do not apply within five days of harvest for greenhouse peppers and tomatoes. Do not re-enter treated areas within 12 hours of application.
Previcur N Fungicide should be used in an integrated pest management program and in rotation with other management strategies to adequately manage resistance.
Follow all other directions for use on the Previcur N Fungicide label carefully.
The minor use projects for greenhouse peppers, tomatoes and cucumbers were sponsored originally by Victoria Brooks and Gillian Ferguson and re-submitted by the Minor Use office of OMAFRA as a result of emergency use and minor use priorities established by producers in Canada. We also wish to thank the personnel of Bayer CropScience Canada Inc. for their support of this registration and the personnel of the Pest Management Regulatory Agency for evaluating and approving this important pest management tool.
