Industry leaders among Canada’s Best Managed
March 15, 2018 By Greenhouse Canada
Canada’s Best Managed Companies have been revealed – and some are familiar names to the horticultural industry.
For Oppy, the fresh produce marketing and distribution company has been named Canada’s Best Managed for the 17th year, continuing their place among the ‘Platinum Club’ winners who have been awarded consecutively for seven years or more. Key achievements in 2017 include their increased organic portfolio with coloured bell peppers from Divemex, their new berry partnership with Ocean Spray, building a successful market for JazzTM EnvyTM and Pacific RoseTM apples and more. They’re also celebrating their 160th year in business.
Ontario wholesaler and retailer Bradford Greenhouses joined the ranks this year as one of the newest additions to Canada’s Best Managed. With over 44 years in the industry, their innovations in horticulture and retail marketing have led to their business’ success.
“We are both humbled and proud to be recognized as a 2018 winner of Canada’s Best Managed Companies program”, said Len Ferragine, Owner of Bradford Greenhouses. “It is a very prestigious award for a family business that has grown with such great support from our families, from our employees’ families, and from the customers we serve. We are extremely grateful and we are excited to continue our journey of growth into the future; this award validates that we are on the right path.”
Other familiar names who returned as winners included Mastronardi Produce and Red Sun Farms.
Sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC, Canadian Business Magazine, Queen’s Smith School of Business, the TMX Group and MacKay CEO Forums, the program recognizes businesses who have excelled in four categories: strategy, capability, commitment and return on investment. Eligible companies must have revenues greater than $15 million.
