HortEast trade show fast approaching
HortEast will take place at the Moncton Coliseum in Moncton, N.B. this Nov. 23-25, and there are many exciting opportunities to look forward to.

Oct. 27, 2009 – HortEast will take place at the Moncton Coliseum in Moncton, N.B. this Nov. 23-25, and there are many exciting opportunities to look forward to.

HortEast has a great line-up of speakers planned for this years show including Erwin Meier-Honniger, the Past President of the International Garden Centre Association, and owner of a successful Garden Centre in Switzerland. Erwins' family business combines a Garden Centre as core business, a Nursery producing exclusively for this garden centre and a landscape department. Currently 140 employees are working in our company that was founded in 1894.  Erwin will be speaking on "Trends in the European garden centre industry” and "More sex, drugs and rock & roll in the garden centre industry".

Another speaker of interest to garden centre’s is Paul Zammit (Director of Horticulture at the Toronto Botanical Garden, ON) who will be speaking on “Perennial Retailing” and “Container Gardening – Four Seasons of Interest”.  Our keynote speaker, Jim Paluch will kick off HortEast on Tuesday with his motivational seminar “Everybody Wins”.  Other HortEast speakers include Frank Kershaw (ON), Gary Johnson (University of MN), and Mark Bradley (The Beach Gardener, ON).

In addition to the two day conference, HortEast will include a trade show with over 140 booths, our regular Kitchen Party, and a New Product Showcase and Silent Auction.

Pre-conference and trade show events on Monday November 23rd include a Garden Centre Tour to some of New Brunswick's finest garden centres, and local attractions, including Green Village Home & Garden, MacArthurs Nurseries Inc., lunch, beer tasting, and a tour at Molson Brewery, the new compost facilities operated by the Greater Moncton Sewerage Commission, and a visit to an impressive Aquascape Pond.

We will also be offering a Landscape Contractors Training Workshop on Monday November 23rd. This will include a workshop led by Jim Paluch, titled "Working Smarter", as well as a workshop for both landscape foreman led by the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and for managers led by The Beach Gardener.

Exam opportunities will be held for Certified Horticultural Technician (CHT), Certified Landscape Design (CLD) and Certified Landscape Professional (CLP), for Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and for the International Society of Arborists (ISA).  A CLD Portfolio workshop will be offered on Monday afternoon.  Continuing education credits will be available for CHT, CLP, CLD and ISA certified individuals by attending the various seminars offered at HortEast.
