April 15, 2011 — Pristine® has received registration for use on greenhouse bedding plants for control of powdery mildew, greenhouse lettuce for suppression of powdery mildew, and outdoor ornamentals for apple scab, pear-trellis rust and gymnosporangium rust.

With two distinct modes of action, Pristine offers excellent disease control and an effective resistance management alternative against a broad-spectrum of diseases on an extensive list of registered crops, including the most recent additions. Pristine is comprised of two active ingredients – pyraclostrobin is a group 11 fungicide while boscalid is a group 7.

“BASF has supported Canada’s minor use system in helping to bring Canadian growers new crop protection technologies. The recent Pristine registrations for greenhouse are examples of this multiple stakeholder co-operation, and we are grateful for the support of government, growers and researchers in securing these new registrations,” said Scott MacDonald, BASF’s marketing manager of specialty products.

Pristine’s updated label includes the following diseases and causal agents: control of powdery mildew (Erysiphe cichoracearum, Erysiphe polygoni) in greenhouse bedding plants, suppression of powdery mildew (Erysiphe cichoracearum) in greenhouse lettuce, apple scab (Venturia inequalis) in crabapple, pear-trellis rust (Gymnosporangium fuscum) in ornamental pear and gymnosporangium rust (Gymnosporangium nelsonii) in serviceberry.

Pristine® must be applied preventively, before disease symptoms appear. It should also be used as part of an integrated pest management program in rotation with other disease management products with different modes of action.
