Two years ago Cyr converted the structure into one of the more distinctive ice huts on Wawa Lake.

“Because it’s the only greenhouse on the lake,” he quips, “everyone has an easy time finding me.”

A friend was going to throw the greenhouse out before Cyr envisioned its recreational potential.

The overhaul included a plywood door, a couple of storage bins for fishing holes, ABS pipes for skis, and a hitch engineered from scrap steel.

The greenhouse replaces a traditional ice hut Cyr used to use. “I found it too heavy.”

On the other hand, the greenhouse might be a little too light. It must be thoroughly secured in place. “One time the first year it blew quite a ways down the lake.”

The natural lighting keeps things bright.

Initially, he had to endure some good-nature ribbing, but his fellow anglers have had a change of heart.

“I’ve had five offers to purchase it,” he jokes,” but I won’t. Greenhouses are expensive.”
