March 27, 2012, Toronto — Balfour Greenhouses, Northend Gardens and Sunrise Greenhouses were showcased at the Featured Growers of Ontario booth at last week’s Canada Blooms .
These Niagara region growers presented a number of exciting and unique products exclusive to their greenhouses.
An example of the new Bells series from Balfour Greenhouses.
• Balfour Greenhouses introduced the elite Bells series, a kalanchoe hybrid with clusters of tubular flowers that range in colour based on the variety. Displayed were ‘Lucky Bells’ and ‘Magic Bells.’
Also presented was the extremely popular and endlessly flowering Somona™ Euphorbia x lomi. Balfour is the exclusive, licensed Canadian grower.
In addition to these new offerings, Balfour’s petite and trendy “minis” and elegant phalaenopsis orchids were other attention-getters.
‘Medinilla Magnifica,’ from Northend Gardens.
• Northend Gardens showcased its impressive ‘Medinilla Magnifica,’ the newest exclusive plant in North America. Medinilla is a timeless beauty that will add elegance in any room.
There are approximately 400 species of medinilla, and – until now – only ‘Magnifica’ is supplied as a houseplant. It is the only medinilla with splendid pink flyleaves and such a large flower.
Its beautiful pink flowers can grow to a length of approximately 50 cm and are a joy to behold.
‘Pixie Grape,' from Sunrise Greenhouses.
• Sunrise Greenhouses is a producer of exclusive potted flowering plants in North America, including its latest offering, ‘Pixie Grape.’ This is a dwarf grape vine that produces miniature clusters of grapes.
This small plant is easy to care for and can be grown both indoors and outside. (In fact, ‘Pixie Grape’ is so small, it can even be grown in a coffee cup!)
Sunrise also featured a number of other exclusive items, including Calathea crocata ‘Tassmania,’ Ardisia ‘Bospremium,’ Sygonanthus chrysanthus ‘Mikado,’ Campanula ‘Dark Get Mee,’ Weeping Pussy Willow, and Miniature Citrus.
