FCO night school accepting registrations

Dec. 10, 2010, Vineland Station, Ont. – A short-course for commercial greenhouse growers is now accepting registrations.

Dec. 10, 2010, Vineland Station, Ont. – A short-course for commercial greenhouse growers is now accepting registrations.

This is a six-week course (one evening per week) for commercial flower and/or vegetable growers. The course will be given during Tuesday evenings over a period of about two months, from 7 to 9:30, beginning Feb.1 and concluding March 8. It will be held in Rittenhouse Hall at the Vineland campus (Advisory Building) of the University of Guelph.

This course is designed with the objective of upgrading current greenhouse employees. Those interested should have at least one year’s experience in greenhouse production. Various topics will be discussed and may include radiation/light, temperature, heating and dehumidification strategies, reasons for physiological disorders, among others.

Instructors are Dr. Theo Blom of the University of Guelph; Albert Grimm of Jeffery’s Greenhouses; and Wayne Brown, greenhouse floriculture specialist with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs.

Pre-registration is required by contacting Lynn Postma of Flowers Canada Ontario at 800-698-0113. The cost is $150 (HST included). Cheques are to be payable to Flowers Canada Ontario. The minimum number of students is 12; the maximum is 25.
