May 21, 2008, Agawam, MA  – A wholly owned Canadian subsidiary of Conrad Fafard, Inc., FPM Peat Moss Company Ltd., has begun construction of a peat processing and mix facility in Manitoba.
Slated to open November 2008, the 32,000-square-foot facility will manufacture packaged peat moss and peat-based professional mixes and potting soils, and employ five full-time and 30 seasonal workers. FPM harvests its own peat moss and currently has leases on three peatlands in southeastern Manitoba in addition to its bogs in New Brunswick.
“We are committed to growing the Fafard brand and presence,” said Conrad Fafard president Keelan Pulliam. “The new plant will build off our acquisition of peat bogs in Manitoba last year and is an important piece of our business strategy.”

Conrad Fafard Inc. is a leading manufacturer of packaged growing media for professional ornamental growers and retail outlets. Acquired by Syngenta in 2006, the company is headquartered in Agawam, Mass., and owns and operates production facilities in Anderson, S.C., Apopka, Fla., Marshall, Texas, and New Brunswick, Canada, as well as peat bogs in the New Brunswick and Manitoba provinces.
