Energy Edge asked FortisBC and BC Hydro in BC, and Enbridge Gas and the Ontario Power Authority in Ontario how many greenhouse operations have taken advantage of incentive programs involving energy audits or efficiency upgrades last year (2011).

·    BC Hydro says 29 greenhouse operations took advantage of either audits or incentive programs for efficiency upgrades in 2011.

·         FortisBC gas company has had no greenhouses yet take part in their audit or efficiency upgrade incentive program. The program has been offered since February 2011.

·         Enbridge Gas handed out 15 incentive payments for energy efficiency measures in Ontario greenhouses in 2011. They have no information on audits.

·         The Ontario Power Authority says 7 greenhouse operators have utilized the business programs available. Three have already received incentive funding for their efficiency upgrades or audits, and the rest have submitted their project information to their local utility for incentive approval. There are an additional 6 greenhouses that are currently in the pre-approval stages.
