B.C.’s untapped geothermal energy potential

A horseshoe-shaped region of active and dormant volcanoes stretching along the Pacific Ocean gives B.C. an abundance of geothermal energy that the province hasn’t yet harnessed to its full potential, according to federal scientists and lobby groups.

According to a CBC News report:

“Scientists say Canada, specifically northern Alberta and British Columbia, holds tremendous reserves of geothermal power, much of it in vast reserves of underground hot springs. Canada’s in-place geothermal power exceeds one million times the country’s current electrical consumption.”
