July 8, 2008, Bellingham, WA — The North American Greenhouse/Hothouse Vegetable Growers (NAGHVG), an association formed after three years of research and review to protect and support superior standards of excellence in food safety and quality, has developed its own certification standards. The NAGHVG was founded by five leading North American greenhouse growers.

June 10, 2008, Leamington, Ont. — The FDA announced June 5 that Canadian tomatoes are not the source of the current salmonella outbreak in the United States. Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers (OGVG) take food safety very seriously and were the first group of growers anywhere in North America to regulate food safety in their industry.

April 11, 2008, Delta, B.C. – The Government of Canada has awarded a $750,000 grant for the B.C. greenhouse vegetable industry as part of its commitment to providing farmers with the resources they need to improve their long-term economic, social and environmental sustainability.

March 13, 2008, Leamington, Ont. — The Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers   (OGVG) has donated $10,000 to the Leamington-based Migrant Worker Community Program (MWCP). “The MWCP has significant value for the community and all offshore workers in the area,” notes the OGVG in a news release.
Feb. 26, 2008, Leamington, Ont. — The Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers board is seeking RFT (Request For Tender) proposals for projects to improve management methods for viral diseases in cucumbers. The closing date for applications is April 1, 2008. 

Feb. 22, 2008, Leamington, Ont. — Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers  (OGVG) are the first group of growers to regulate food safety in their industry.
Here’s some food for thought. A recent UCLA/Louisiana State University study of dietary data on more than 17,500 people found that consumption of salads and raw vegetables correlates with higher concentrations of folic acid, vitamins C and E, lycopene and alpha and beta carotene in the bloodstream.
Time is ripe for new products.  "For second year, a greenhouse carrot crop grown in the Maritimes quickly sold out."

Concerned by the poor eating habits of school children, the Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers initiated and funded the healthy eating pilot project Healthy Hearts, Healthy Minds™ to help kids get nutrient rich food and promote healthy eating habits.
