Dec. 23, 2009, Vineland, Ont. – Dr. Daryl Somers, research director of applied genomics at Vineland Research and Innovation Centre (VRIC), is working with colleagues Dr. Theo Blom from the University of Guelph and Wayne Brown from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs on the development of new traits for one of Ontario’s major ornamental species, the petunia.

Proven Winners plants were featured in the November issue of Vogue magazine in a multiple page spread linking gardening to fashion.
Nov. 10, 2009 – A new trial site on the California Spring Trials circuit (April 10-17, 2010) will bring new life to an old venue. While the stop at Imagination Canyon is not new, the participants displaying at this stop create a new tour opportunity.
Nov. 9, 2009 – Two new pepper varieties will debut next fall. The new cultivars have been released by the U.S. Agricultural Research Service (ARS) and are trademarked ‘Lil’ Pumpkin’ and ‘Pepper Jack.’
Oct. 30, 2009, Richmond, B.C. – Phoenix Perennials owner Gary Lewis is the new Canada Region Director with the Perennial Plant Association (PPA). The PPA is best known by gardeners for its Perennial Plant of the Year program.
