Niagara ‘walkabouts’ with Allan Armitage

– Renowned horticulturist Dr. Allan Armitage will lead a pair of
community garden tours hosted by the Niagara Parks School of
Horticulture later this month.

Aug. 1, 2008, Niagara Falls, Ont. – Renowned horticulturist Dr. Allan Armitage will lead a pair of community garden tours hosted by the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture later this month.
Dr. Armitage, a horticultural professor at the University of Georgia, will provide an educational and captivating account of specific plants and their garden virtues. The tours will be held in the Botanical Gardens, followed by a presentation and book signing. Each session will cost $25 per person (including taxes) on the following dates:
• Thursday, Aug. 7 – Annuals for Everybody: These are NOT your grandma’s marigolds anymore.          
• Tuesday, Aug. 12 – The Changing Palette of Herbaceous Native Plants: new selections, new breeding, more choices.

Dr. Armitage was a popular fixture at the Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and School of Horticulture last year while on sabbatical from his university duties. He is working this summer to further advance the networking and consultation services he undertook in 2007.
The Niagara Parks Botanical Gardens and School of Horticulture is located at 2565 Niagara Parkway North, Niagara Falls, Ontario. The Niagara Parks Commission is an agency of the Ministry of Tourism that has operated at no cost to taxpayers since 1885.
