Sept. 9, 2014, Charlottetown, PEI — Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee is calling for a ban on cosmetic pesticides in the capital city.
Council has passed a resolution asking the provincial government to amend the Charlottetown Area Municipalities Act to enable the city to regulate cosmetic pesticides.
But the owner of a local pest management company says pesticides are already heavily regulated.
Rob Gallant says imposing a ban could lead to property owners or unlicensed companies applying pesticides themselves.
