Sept. 12, 2017, St. Davids, Ont. – Garden City Growers (GCG) is selling its facilities in St. Davids to Canopy Growth Corporation (Canopy), a leading Canadian cannabis producer.

The transaction closed on Sept 7, 2017.

GCG is a grower and shipper of potted indoor and outdoor plants with customers located throughout eastern Canada and most parts of the U.S. The company traces its roots back to 1975 with their original facilities located in nearby St. Catharines.

“The offer to purchase our facilities were unsolicited and unexpected,” said company president Ted VanderKaay. “The decision to sell was not an easy one as it does affect the employment of many staff members, many who have been with the company for over 20 years. They are like family members and the changes are significant to all of them.

“I am committed to ensuring that all of our team members will find suitable employment quickly and seamlessly.”

Moving forward, GCG will work with all of its customers to ensure that any disruption of supply for their respective businesses will be minimal. The company expects to wind down operations by the end of the year.
