Canada's first pre-holidays sale day is just two weeks away. Friday, November 28 has been designated "Red Day" in Canada to mirror the U.S. Thanksgiving weekend sales that lure many Canadians south of the border for the bargains. The day after the American Thanksgiving is traditionally the biggest retail sales day of the year and now for the first time ever, it's coming to Canada.
Earlier this fall, Kim Yost, President & CEO of The Brick
encouraged retailers and shopping malls across Canada to start an
annual tradition of a sale day before the holidays.
"We think Canadian consumers and retailers alike can all benefit from a
new Boxing Day style of sale, but one that is before the holidays,"
says Kim Yost, CEO of The Brick. "It is gaining momentum and showing
good support for the first year. We think it will build into a
tradition here just as it has in the U.S. over the past several years."
Longer hours and greater savings will be the hallmark of Red Day. The
Brick will be open on Red Day from 7:00 in the morning until midnight
and offer "Boxing Day type" special sales on a wide variety of
merchandise. It is expected that many Canadians will take advantage of
the extended hours to shop before work in the morning and well into the
"There couldn't be a better time to launch this," adds Yost. "With the
economy slowing and Canadians being more frugal as a result, Red Day is
the answer to economy minded consumers. We are expecting more retailers
to join in on the excitement between now and November 28th."
In the coming weeks individual retailers will begin to advertise details of their specific sales.
