Ever seen the Dragon’s Den program on TV? The essence of it is that inventors, or folks with great ideas or even a fledgling business that needs a cash injection, try to sell their genius “money-back-in-no-time” concept to a panel of highly successful investment experts for a (significant) cut of the spoils. Sometimes, they are annoyingly simple, “why didn’t I think of that?” ideas proposed by folks who clearly lack common sense. Sometimes, otherwise seemingly sensible, clear-thinking folks have just let an absolutely nutso idea get the better of their judgment.

Self-employed to get EI benefits

The Government of Canada has introduced the Fairness for the Self-Employed Act, legislation that would extend Employment Insurance (EI) special benefits to the self‑employed.

Oct. 6, 2009, Thorold, Ont. — Growers, wholesale florists and industry suppliers are invited to register company profiles in the 2010 issue of the Ontario Greenhouse Growers’ Directory and Buyer’s Guide.
Next month’s Saskatchewan Green Trades Conference brings together the province’s commercial greenhouse growers, garden centre retailers, field vegetable producers, community planners, parks and recreation specialists, Communities in Bloom volunteers, florists and industry suppliers in one location. This is the largest conference and trade show of its kind in the province and is not only a chance for the industry to network but also an opportunity for professional development for these like-minded groups.
I am sure we can list more than 100 major changes that affect us directly without any effort. Many of these changes could be positive and others negative. The question is, how did we respond to these changes or, more importantly, did we respond at all?
