April 8, 2010, Waterloo, Ont. – Descartes Systems Group, a federated global logistics network, announced that McLeod Software, a leading software provider for the trucking industry, has joined Descartes' United by Design program to offer broader services to its truck carrier brokerage and shipper community throughout North America.

McLeod provides an integrated array of transportation software tools that satisfy fleet management needs for trucking companies, freight brokerage firms, 3PLs and shippers. Combined with Descartes’ federated Global Logistics Network and value-added applications for the trucking and freight brokerage industry, McLeod can now offer additional solutions to its customers to reduce costs and improve operational efficiency, including electronic data interchange (EDI) messaging, customs filing and compliance solutions.

In addition, the combined logistics community formed by McLeod and Descartes’ user base can now work together to automate and standardize multi-party business processes for the transportation industry and share critical information to accelerate productivity improvements and cost savings. The combination accelerates implementation times, the rate of cost savings and productivity improvements for end users.

“By joining the Descartes United by Design program, we can now extend to our customers additional pre-integrated solutions enhancing the value McLeod provides, saving our mutual customers additional operational costs,” said Tom McLeod, president and CEO of McLeod Software. “Descartes offers a state-of-the-art network and logistics technology with an eye on the future of logistics and the ability to provide these valuable services quickly.”

The objective of the United by Design program is to bring together partners serving logistics-intensive organizations and make it easier for customers to implement and take advantage of these offerings, said Art Mesher, CEO of Descartes. "The relationship between Descartes and McLeod Software is a prime example of how Descartes is growing its ecosystem of strategic alliances to provide pre-integrated solutions to our communities and improve time-to-value– enabling them to save money now."

Descartes' federated network combines the power of the Descartes Global Logistics Network (GLN), a community of over 22,000 companies in over 165 countries exchanging logistics information, and value-added applications working together to standardize and streamline multi-party business processes.
