Sept. 8, 2016 – It’s never too early to start succession planning, notes one of Canada’s leading farm management specialists.
“If you haven’t started your succession plan, start now,” says Terry Betker, president and CEO of Backswath Management Inc., based in Manitoba. “The benefits far outweigh the costs.”
Greenhouse Canada is hosting a free webinar on Sept. 15 with timely advice on how best to prepare for succession. And you’re invited. The webinar will run from 2 to 3 p.m. Eastern time, and pre-registration is required. If you’re unable to view the webinar at that time, you will be sent a link to the “on demand” recorded version of the webinar to view at your convenience.
Betker is leading the session.
Agriculture is well known for multi-generational farm operations, with often two generations – and sometimes three – working together.
“I get asked all the time about how to start the process. Understanding that succession planning is really about transitioning ownership and management – and importantly, separating those discussions – is a great first step. For the webinar presentation, I’ll be using my experiences working with farm families to drill down into what you should know to help make this happen.”
