Beekenkamp, Monrovia and ABZ Seeds withdraw from CAST 2020

March 12, 2020  By Greenhouse Canada

Beekenkamp, Monrovia and ABZ Seeds have announced the cancellation of their California Spring Trials stop at Floricultura in Salinas.

“We want to reduce overall risk associated with the Coronavirus (COVID-19),” says Sirekit Mol, marketing manager at Beekenkamp.

They will be looking at alternative ways to present new varieties.

“Providing this global situation will be under control in the near future, Beekenkamp would like to welcome you [to] the FlowerTrials 2020 in week 24, at our location in Maasdijk, the Netherlands.”

This announcement follows Sakata and Syngenta’s decisions to withdraw their participation.

Other breeders taking part in CAST have declared that they will be open or are continuing to monitor the situation before they make a decision. Here is the current list of known open/closed stops:

Ball’s Santa Paula stop will be open March 28-31. Management is monitoring the situation. Guests not travelling to Santa Paula can access all new introductions by downloading the free app: https://www.ballhort.com/springtrials/CASTmobile/

Dümmen Orange’s stop is still on and they are looking forward to hosting growers. Note that their location has changed this year to a spot west of their previous location, along the coast of Avila Beach. Access to the site is by invitation only.

Green Fuse plans to be open. Final decisions will be expected by the end of the week.
