‘Amigo Plant VOF,’ from Heerhugowaard, shone the brightest – quite literally – in the Concepts category for its Glowing Star in the Dark® program, a great concept that lights up these dark winter months. It has exceptional customer appeal and it is especially attractive to younger audiences.

Other category winners included:

'Clematis Diversifolia Star River.'

'Clematis Diversifolia Star River,' of Bondeni Flowers / Marginpar (Pvt) Ltd., won in the Cut Flower category. This is an innovative product that fits in well with current trends. It has some of the characteristics of a garden plant, but the jury says it works best when cultivated as a cut flower.

‘Alocasia Zebrina.’

‘Alocasia Zebrina,’ from Sjaak van der Sar from Zevenhuizen, topped the houseplant category. Its impressive leaf stems perfectly suit modern interiors; there are few other plants with such beautifully patterned stems.

‘Verbena Lanai Twister Blue.’

Ripaplant, from Twello, topped the garden plant nominees with its ‘Verbena Lanai Twister Blue’ – a long-flowering variety with a great combination of colours.

Every year, the flower auction FloraHolland sponsors the “Glass Tulip” competition in four categories to growers and breeders. The program honours the best new introductions.

The winners are selected and nominated from among the hundreds of new cultivars and concepts introduced annually at the auction. Buyers and sellers at FloraHolland and an expert and public-oriented jury are all involved in the nomination and awards process.
