The paper describes the challenges that process plant operators face in implementing effective energy management strategies, and how to use information management technologies to overcome these challenges. The paper’s summary states that these software programs

can “provide the means to harness an enterprise’s extensive, but often under-exploited, information assets. Such capability supports the key elements of a sustainable, long-term Energy Management programme: best practice methodology and an integrated framework to address its information requirements.” This type of programme, in the eyes of the paper’s authors, is “a substantial step on the road to implementing a comprehensive Operations Integrity Management strategy” that will deliver business-wide benefits, including “more extensive and sustained optimisation of all aspects of asset operation.”
