March 27, 2015, Delta, B.C. – Windset Farms is its partnership with CityReach Care Society, an organization that works to develop and assist low-income families in the city of Vancouver.

Since Windset’s first donation in 2010, they have donated over 30,000 kilograms of fresh, nutritious greenhouse grown produce to CityReach’s “Food for Families” program.

Food for Families is the food bank program at CityReach Care Society. It now serves over 850 adults and children every week.

The program began with a three-year grant from World Vision to tackle local poverty. Now, over six years later, Food for Families is self-funded with 90 per cent through in-kind donations, including the fruits and vegetables supplied by Windset Farms and other local farms.

Food for Families’ mandate is to serve wholesome, nutritious foods by providing families with an assortment of fresh produce, protein, dairy and grains. They also offer supplemental programs like community cooking classes, which teaches parents how to cook healthy balanced meals on a budget and provide nutritional information to make healthier eating choices.

“We support healthy lifestyles and that of course, includes a healthy diet consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables,” says John Newell, COO of Windset Farms. “We hope that by donating our vegetables to CityReach Care Society, we can increase the accessibility of fresh produce to everyone in our community.”
