Vineland also hosting public open house for points

Dec. 3, 2014, Vineland Station, Ont. — Consumers are inviited to tour the annual Poinsettia Open House at Vineland Research and Innovation Centre on Friday (Dec. 5).

Co-hosted by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA), the open house will feature over 100 poinsettia varieties.

Included are 34 new varieties being tested for their ability to sustain different climates, appeal to different markets and for potential commercialization.

The open house will be held from 1-4 p.m.

Vineland is one of three trial sites in North America supported by poinsettia breeders to evaluate performance of the plants. Vineland represents the northern region; North Carolina State University represents the mid-latitude region; and the University of Florida represents the southern region.

GROWER OPEN HOUSE ON THURSDAY

A grower-focused open house is being held tomorrow (Dec. 4).

Vineland Research and Innovation Centre is a world-class research centre dedicated to horticultural science and innovation. Vineland’s mission is to deliver innovative products and production solutions that address the needs of the horticulture industry and advance Canada’s research and commercialization agenda.

It is an independent, not-for-profit organization, funded in part by Growing Forward 2, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative.
