Nov. 13, 2013, Edmonton – About two dozen delegates attending an aquaponics workshop at the University of Alberta enjoyed an afternoon tour of leading edge research being conducted in the province.
Dr. Nick Savidov led the tour of his research greenhouse at the Crop Diversification Centre North of Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development.

Savidov is a highly regarded expert on aquaponics, and has helped make Alberta a world leader in this specialty. He has spent many years developing systems and sees a bright future for aquaponics.
The two-day conference was coordinated by NOA Fisheries, and attracted delegates from across North America.
Joining Savidov at the podium during the conference was Charlie Shultz of Lethbridge College, Dr. James Tidwell of Kentucky State University, Donald Baily of the University of the Virgin Islands, Jim Wagner of Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development, and Timothy Kendrick of BW GLOBAL Structures.
How much interest is there in aquaponics? Greenhouse Canada published a feature several years ago highlighting Savidov's early research, which was then being conducted at the Crop Diversification Centre South in Brooks. In almost every monthly report of visitor activity on our website since then, the story ranks in the top 10 … and quite often in the top five!
