Westcoast Vegetables Ltd. (located in Delta, British Columbia) is looking for a Packing and Shipping Manager for its 53-acre greenhouse operation. 
Our client, Westcoast Vegetables Ltd. (located in Delta, British Columbia) is looking for a Packing and Shipping Manager for its 53-acre greenhouse operation. In this position, you’ll oversee our plant operations to ensure cost effectiveness and reliable production, and use your expertise to develop key efficiencies and productivity in the packing division. You are a motivated and results-driven person who prides yourself on professionalism and continuous improvement, and the ability to work independently or in collaboration with a team.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the operational area, including grading line operations, product-quality control, on-time order fulfillment, equipment maintenance management, food safety and occupational health and safety programs.
  • Acts as a source of leadership, guidance and motivation for the packaging facility team.
  • Analyzes the packaging facility numerically to ensure production and labour efficiency.
  • Plans, organizes, directs, controls and evaluates the pepper-grading and -packaging operation.
  • Manages day-to-day personnel scheduling to ensure proper staffing and maximum operation efficiency.
  • Trains and supervises staff in standard operating procedures and proper equipment use.
  • Oversees daily order fulfillment, and product shipping and receiving.
  • Identifies, analyzes and resolves issues in a timely manner.
  • Consults with growers to evaluate and forecast production volume.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory control of raw and finished products and packaging materials.
  • Ensures the facility’s space is well organized.
  • Ensures we meet grading, packaging, and shipping specifications.
  • Ensures full compliance with food-safety program.
  • Improves health and safety measures at every operational level.
  • Maintains documentation and paperwork.
  • Consults with maintenance staff to discuss potential issues and schedule time for machine maintenance.
  • Provides continuous staff training and coaching to ensure team development.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve labour, equipment, and operational-process efficiency.
  • Maintains a positive and professional atmosphere.

Key Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in business or operations management, food product processing or a related discipline.
  • Minimum three years of progressive manufacturing experience in a high-volume, fast-paced operating environment.
  • Experience dealing with warehousing and distribution of perishable goods, preferably in a supervisory position.
  • Experience with inventory, shipping, and receiving software (FAMOUS or similar program is an asset).
  • Strong supervisory and coaching skills. Willingness to work flexible hours. Speak fluent English; Punjabi is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, project management and planning skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with food safety, occupational health and safety, and HACCP programs.
  • Mechanical inclination. Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong and positive ability to communicate.
