This entry level Scout position is located at Mastron Enterprises Ltd; our greenhouse facility. The essential function of this position is to work alongside the Growers to monitor and scout pests and diseases; supervise IPM Protocols to pest and disease management; track, map, and compile charts of pest pressure; and assist with biological applications.
Primary Responsibilities:
Monitoring and scouting of pests and diseases
Reporting and drawing data of infestation, infection and deficiency levels
Monitor efficiency of products used for control measures
Verification of pest and disease infestation trends
Coordinating with management on all biological programs and implementation
Verifying / validating of scouting reports to confirm accuracy and reliability
Ensuring management plans / intentions on plant health are implemented in a timely manner
Facilitating trials with the guidance of the Growers, on new products prior to commercial use within the farm
Working with the Growers to ensure product orders for scouting purposes are placed on time
Maintaining up to date records and reports
Assist in planning, organizing, training, and assigning scout duties if required

Position Requirements:
Pesticide License or Assistant’s License preferred
Good communicator verbal / written
Well organized and a self starter
Related work experience with pesticide license
Excellent record keeping and analytical skills
Knowledgeable of horticultural pests and disease identification
Self motivated, positive attitude
Work independently with minimal supervision
Ability to work at heights and be trained on a scissor lift
Experience in greenhouse growing industry an asset

Working Conditions:
Greenhouse environment where the temperature may reach 37°C and background noise approaches 70 dcbs.
Position requires sitting, standing, and walking on a regular basis for prolonged periods
Visual and audio sensory are needed regularly
Must have manual dexterity to perform computer skills, and operate equipment  
Continuous interaction with various departments and colleagues
Ability to make changes as needed without advance notice

Compensation/Terms:
Job will be reviewed after 3 months to see if it has been successful.
Performance will be reviewed to see if employee has been successful (no guarantee of raise)
