Gaining your edge
Energy Edge is an initiative of Greenhouse Canada magazine aimed at turning what is a liability for most growers – fluctuating energy costs – into a competitive advantage. With energy accounting for as much as 40 per cent of the operating costs of many greenhouse operations, small and steady improvements on this front can move the needle in a big way on the bottom line. Energy Edge will look at new technologies, innovative projects, case studies of growers finding their own Energy Edge.

Two bio-energy conferences this week are examining all facets of using bio-materials to produce energy and more.
From April 24-26th, CanBio holds 'Advancing the Bio-economy: Biomass in a Canadian Energy Strategy' in Edmonton, Alberta. From April 23-25, The North American Waste-to-Energy Conference is running in Portland, Maine.

CanBio's 'Advancing the Bio-economy: Biomass in a Canadian Energy Strategy' will explore options to develop the bio-economy, as well as the options available to the oil & gas industry, the forest and agriculture industries, the bioenergy industry and utilities to form partnerships in its development. It is part of CanBio’s plans to develop a ‘Canadian Bioenergy Strategy’ by the end of this year. CanBio says the government of Canada is currently contemplating the development of a Canadian Energy Strategy. Visit here for more.
The North American Waste-to-Energy Conference (NAWTEC) is widely recognized as the leading industry technical conference and trade show focusing on municipal waste-to-energy operational issues and policy, technology and research initiatives. It is sponsored by the Energy Recovery Council (ERC), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA), in partnership with the Waste-to-Energy Research and Technology Council (WTERT) at Columbia University.
