Jan. 19, 2015, Leamington, Ont. — Ontario greenhouse cucumbers are now on retail shelves.

The Ontario Greenhouse Vegetable Growers (OGVG) has launched its annual winter cucumber program “Always in Season.”

This program signals the beginning of the production period for English cucumbers and informs Ontario consumers of their availability in spite of being in the depth of the winter months.

“There’s no need for consumers to wait until summer to add local cucumbers to their family’s menu,” said OGVG general manager George Gilvesy. “Consumers can find fresh, locally grown Ontario greenhouse cucumbers in grocery stores throughout Ontario.”

This program is done in conjunction with Foodland Ontario and is supported by the Ontario Local Food Fund. This year’s campaign includes POS material, new recipes, retailer promotion options and a media campaign aimed at raising the awareness of the availability of this fresh produce offering.

For these new recipes and other meal ideas visit www.OGVG.com.

OGVG is a not-for-profit organization representing over 210 members who grow greenhouse tomato, cucumber and bell pepper crops in the province.
