OSU trials showcase the latest varieties
Aug. 23, 2016 – Cultivate’16 is horticulture’s largest all-industry convention and trade show in North America, featuring more than 120 educational sessions and an eight-acre trade show.
It is held in mid-July each year at the Columbus Convention Center in Ohio, and attracts many Canadian growers.
This year's theme was "The New Now," and that was reflected in the Ohio State University cultivar trials that put the spotlight on many exciting new varieties.
Featured were more than 700 annual and perennial varieties of new or recently introduced varieties. It was a great opportunity to view how they performed under typical central Ohio conditions.
Visitors also welcomed the chance to view the 12,000 square feet of green roof atop Howlett Hall, the first retrofit green roof at OSU.
Welcoming guests was trials director Dr. Claudio Pasian of the university's department of horticulture and crop science.
Editor Dave Harrison welcomed the opportunity to speak with him about the trials and their benefits to the industry. Please note, due to a technical difficulty, the video portion of the interview with Dr. Pasian at the trials location was lost; however, the audio was maintained.
