Dave Harrison NEW VARIETIES IN SPOTLIGHT

Hundreds of growers enjoyed equipment displays

Written by Dave Harrison
22Hundreds of growers enjoyed equipment displays, educational presentations by leading industry specialists, and closeup views of dozens of new varieties at last fall’s Garden Trials hosted by George Sant & Sons Greenhouses and Ball Superior.

Equipment displayed included the Big Blue Machine, an all-in-one unit that breaks bales, mixes and fills all types of containers, and the Punch ’N Grow transplanter.

The garden trials were hosted within the greenhouses. George Sant & Sons Greenhouses are located near Kleinburg, just north of Toronto.

Speakers describing the new varieties included Jerry Gorchels (PanAmerican Seed), Jim Kennedy (Ball FloraPlant Perennials), and Jeff LaCourse (Ball Seed). Ed Higgins, program and technical advisor with Ball Chrysanthemum, discussed the latest production strategies.
