‘Environmental Outlook on Agriculture’ symposium

Jan. 12, 2012, Guelph, Ont. – Agriculture will be the theme of this year’s 19th annual Environmental Sciences Symposium (ESS) hosted by University of Guelph students.

The “Environmental Outlook on Agriculture: A Public Perspective” symposium will be held Jan. 21 in the Science Complex Atrium at the university. The sessions run from 9 to 5:30 p.m.

ESS is a student-run, non-profit event.

This year’s symposium features a number of lectures and workshops by speakers from a variety of backgrounds including science, social studies and industry. Some 200 attendees are expected, including academics, students and members of the community.

Among greenhouse sector speakers will be Dr. Mike Dixon (“Space Exploration and Technology Transfer to Canadian Agriculture), and Dr. Youbin Zheng (“Green Roofs: Benefits and Research at the University of Guelph”).

Admission is $10, and includes coffee, snacks and lunch. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m.
