Groups rewarded for their “orange thumbs”
Written by Dave Harrison
Jan. 9, 2012 — Three Canadian communities are benefitting under the 2012 Project Orange Thumb grants program sponsored by Fiskars.

Groups in Ottawa, Prince George, B.C., and Collingwood, Ont., have been awarded $5,000 in cash and tools towards their community garden projects.

Since 2002, Project Orange Thumb has contributed over $1.3 million to more than 125 community groups and completed 12 garden makeovers in the U.S. and Canada. These include garden projects geared toward community involvement, neighbourhood beautification, sustainable agriculture and horticulture education.

For further information on the grant recipients and the Project Orange Thumb program, visit www.projectorangethumb.com. Updates of each garden’s progress through the growing season will be posted to the Project Orange Thumb Facebook page.
