New format for OMAFRA IPM workshops
Written by OMAFRA
Jan. 5, 2012, Vineland, Ont. — A pair of one-day IPM workshops are being hosted this winter by the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, in conjunction with Flowers Canada Growers and the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre.

The format of these workshops is changing from that which has been so successful since 1991 when the first of these was held. It has become more difficult to fit all the information into one day, especially as new research and biocontrol information becomes available. Consequently, the program has been expanded to two days.

The first workshop will be held on Feb. 22, as noted in previous communications and on the Flowers Canada (Ontario) website. This workshop will focus on “IPM and Biocontrol of Insects and Mites.” The second workshop is on March 14, and will focus on “IPM and Biocontrol of Diseases.”

Splitting the workshop in this way will allow more time to expand the content and approach these topics at a more advanced level. With so many growers using biological control, many of the questions and concerns of growers are well beyond the “basics” that were the foundation of the original workshop 20 years ago. Both sessions will be a little shorter than in previous years, starting at 9.30 a.m. and finishing at about 3.30 p.m.

The workshops will be held in Rittenhouse Hall in the OMAFRA Advisory Services Building at the Vineland Research and Innovation Centre. The cost is $75 per person ($66.37 plus $8.63 HST) for both workshops, or $50 per person ($44.25 plus $5.75 HST) for one workshop.

The registration fee includes lunch, coffee, hand lens, workbook and resource information.
