Dec. 12, 2011, Toronto — Ontario is helping the Ontario Greenhouse Alliance and 28 other organizations and communities create smarter solutions to protect water and to provide safe, reliable clean drinking water to Ontarians.
Through the new Showcasing Water Innovation program, the Ontario Greenhouse Alliance will work to develop technologies to recycle 100 per cent of the nutrient-bearing water its members’ discharge. This will help the sector use less water per hectare of production and become more competitive.
The program supports projects with innovative and cost-effective ways to improve drinking water, wastewater and storm water systems. These improvements conserve and protect water while making the delivery to our taps more efficient.
Ontario has the highest standards for clean water in North America, according to the government.
Industries in the province have developed water technologies that are used around the world. This has also benefited Ontarians by creating clean jobs and protecting one of the most valuable resources for future generations. Showcasing Water Innovation projects help to demonstrate the practicality and benefits of new, made-in-Ontario innovations.
Partnering with business on water innovation projects is a key component of the government’s plan to become the continent’s water innovation leader by 2015 and create new green jobs for Ontario families.
