Oct. 21, 2011, Toronto — Ontario is a much more beautiful place today, thanks to the efforts of volunteers in 60 communities across the province.
Representatives of those communities were honoured during this year's Communities in Bloom Ontario awards ceremony, held during Expo 2011 earlier this week.
Communities in Bloom – Ontario, is a registered non-profit Canadian organization committed to fostering civic pride, environmental responsibility and beautification through community participation and the challenge of friendly competition.
The program strives to improve the tidiness, appearance and visual appeal of Canada's neighbourhoods, parks, open spaces and streets through the imaginative use of flowers, plants and trees. A focus on environmental awareness and the preservation of heritage and culture is an integral part of its success resulting in an improved quality of life.
Among individual awards, Niagara Falls won in the Green For Life schools competition, while the Tree Legacy Park Project in Seacliff Park in Leamington received an honourable mention in the Green For Life parks division.
