Service of Celebration today for Jim Meyers Sr.
Written by Dave Harrison
June 6, 2011, St. Catharines, Ont. — A Service of Celebration is being held this morning for Jim Meyers Sr., of Meyers Fruit Farms and Meyers Flowers of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Mr. Meyers had a sudden heart attack on June 1, and passed away on June 2.

According to a website posting by Flowers Canada Ontario, “Jim, with his wife, Sina, came to Canada in 1951 with a dream and $200 dollars in his pocket. He has left behind a legacy ...  five children, 19 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and another five great grandchildren on the way. Meyers Farms and Greenhouses was borne from a vision and along with a great work ethic, its strength continues to this day. Jim realized early that success was achievable through the talents of exceptional employees, including the Jamaican and Mexican contribution, and his family.”

Mr. Meyers received FCO's Lifetime Achievement Award a few years ago. The family business was also the subject of Melhem Sawaya feature in Greenhouse Canada just a few years ago.

The Service of Celebration will be held at Covenant Christian Reformed Church (17 Parnell Road, St. Catharines) on Monday, June 6th at 11 a.m., with refreshments to follow at Meyers Farm (1444 Irvine Rd / Firelane 12 and Lakeshore Rd) in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

Further information can be obtained through Hulse and English Funeral Home of St. Catharines.
